When will the Pan-American Masters Games Rio 2020 take place?

The Pan-American Masters Games Rio 2020 will occur from September 4th to the 13th in 2020, in the city of Rio de Janeiro.

 

Which sports will be in the program of the Pan-American Masters Games Rio 2020?

The Pan-American Masters Games Rio 2020 will gather 24 sports and 49 disciplines. The sports are: Track & Field (including Street Running), Basketball, Canoeing, Cycling, DanceSport, Flying Disc, Soccer, Golf, Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, Wrestling, Swimming (including Marathon swimming), Orienteering, Water Polo, Rowing, Surfing, Tennis, Table tennis, Triathlon, Shooting, Archery, Sailing, Volleyball and Skating, which will feature as a demonstration sport.

 

Where will the competitions occur?

Competitions will take place in 25 sport venues, most of them used during the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, including Olympic Park, the Radical Park of Deodoro, Olympic Shooting Center, Olympic Golf Course, Marina da Glória, Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, Riocentro, Copacabana Beach, Maria Lenk Aquatics Center and the Julio Delamare Aquatic Park. Will the Pan-American Masters Games Rio 2020 be open for the participation of people with disabilities?

Yes, the sports that will have the participation of people with disabilities are: Canoeing, Street Running, Swimming, Rowing, Triathlon and Archery.

 

Who can register?

The Pan-American Masters Games Rio 2020 are open for participants from all over the world that meet the requirements of minimum age for the sports in which they will compete and have the physical and technical capacity to compete in the disciplines that feature in the program. People from other continents besides the Americas can take part in the Pan-American Masters Games Rio 2020?

Yes. Just like all competitions from the International Masters Games Association (IMGA), the Pan-American Masters Games Rio 2020 are open to sportspeople from all over the world.

 

Do I need to be part of a national team or a club in order to participate?

The Pan-American Masters Games Rio 2020 are not disputed between clubs and nations. In the individual sports, each participant can represent himself. In the collective sports the participant can represent a group of friends, a club or any given entity.

 

Do participants need to be from the same country in team competitions?

No. In team competitions the teams can be formed by people of the same nationality or by mixed teams, with people from different countries.

 

Is it necessary to reach any specific sporting standard in order to participate?

Participants don’t have to meet any specific sporting standard, nor will they be required to prequalify in their categories.

Is it necessary a health certificate or any other document to carry out the registration?

Yes, to carry out the registration, the athletes must confirm and accept the Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy of the Pan-American Masters Games Rio 2020. Besides accepting these documents, the athletes must upload a Health Certificate valid for 90 days in relation to the date of the competition’s last day; i.e., valid as from June 13, 2020 up to September 13, 2020.

What is the registration fee?

The registration fee is US$ 205, for foreigners. Each registration gives the participant the right to take part in two sports and five competitions in each one of them. For example: the same person can choose to play basketball in the 5×5 and 3×3 disciplines and take part in up to five swimming competitions. The Street Running competition will be considered as a separate event within the program of the Pan-American Masters Games Rio 2020 and its registration will have affordable prices.

 

Besides allowing participation in sporting events, does the payment of the registration fee enable participants to take part in other activities?

Yes, all those who are registered in the Pan-American Masters Games Rio 2020 will be able to participate in the Masters Fests, daily celebrations in two of Rio de Janeiro’s iconic spots. In addition, everyone will receive the Athlete Kit, consisting of a backpack and various gifts from the sponsors of the event.

 

How will the registration for team sports be?

Each team must have a representative who will register on behalf of the team. In addition to this enrollment, each member of the group must register individually indicating the sport chosen and which team they are connected to.

 

Does the competition provide uniforms to the participants?

No. Participants must compete wearing their own uniforms or outfits commonly used while practicing the sport.

 

Are competition venues accessible by public transportation?

Yes, this is an important mark of the Pan-American Masters Games Rio 2020: all venues are accessible by public transportation

 

In addition to the competitions, will there be social events in the city?

Yes, participants and the public will have the opportunity to enjoy the best of Rio de Janeiro. Every day, after the competitions there will be Masters Fests in two parts of the city. These are social events to celebrate the sports spirit, to eat, drink and dance with live Brazilian and international music.

 

Is there any official agency responsible for offering accommodation, transportation and experiences in Rio de Janeiro?

What is the expected number of registered sportspeople?

Between 10 and 20 thousand sportspeople are expected at the Rio 2020 Masters Pan American Games.

 

Who is responsible for organizing Pan-American Masters Games Rio 2020?

The competition, conceived by the Brazilian Committee of Masters Sports (CBEM) and with the support of Rio de Janeiro’s city hall, Rio de Janeiro’s state government and groups within the hospitality sector, will be carried out by the Local Organizing Committee. It is part of the official calendar of the International Masters Games Association (IMGA).
